This is a book project with Peter Newell about the way capitalism is being transformed by responses to climate change, and how the way that capitalism shapes the response to climate change at the same time. We are nearly finished, discussing it with publishers, and hope it will be out by the end of 2009.
Governance and legitimacy in carbon markets
This is a research project with Matt Hoffmann, Steven Bernstein and Michele Betsill. We’re looking at how rules are being made carbon markets as they develop, and how the contested claims about whether such markets are a legitimate way to respond to climate change shape those rules. We’re looking at the development of such markets in North America (especially in Canada and in the Western Climate Initiative). in Australia, and at the international level.
One part of that project involves tracing the key members of the networks of individuals who have promoted carbon markets since the first ideas about them were put forward in 1989.
